As the cute little girl scouts begin
roaming around going door to door with their scrumptious cookies it is a sign to me that it's
about the same time I begin hearing grumblings of obstacles getting in the way of those new
year's resolutions. It doesn't have to be that way.

William Arthur Ward shows us it's all how we look at the challenge. He shared: "The
experienced mountain climber is not intimidated by a mountain-- he is inspired by it. The
persistent winner is not discouraged by a problem--he is challenged by it. Mountains are
created to be conquered; adversities are designed to be defeated; problems are sent to
be solved. It is better to master one mountain than a thousand foothills"

We all hear the stats on how many people fall off their goals. What we don't hear is how many
people set goals and achieve great things. If they can do it... you can, too! Hold your eyes
on that end result you want every day! Just as if you have already achieved it.

Stay confident in who you are. You are capable of more than you know. If you need help, ask.
If you need answers, seek. If you need rest, rest. Remember how amazing you will feel when you conquer your mountain and how it can change life in new directions.

Refuse to be intimidated by a challenge. Stand strong in who you are. Take action to
experience progress and build confidence. Ask yourself:

~ How can I approach an obstacle as an opportunity to learn, grow, quell a fear, gain
strength and become better for it?

~ How can I face the challenge so that I am inspired to persistently take steps forward
with zeal; consistently anticipating how great you will feel for having the gumption to
 see it through?

If you need support join the Starting Now group on Facebook. Or a student at the beginning of a school year until the end. They develop so much by learning and developing skills daily. We all learn and grow on a daily basis but we can grow in greater strides when we are intentional about about learning something or building a skill.

Developing skills and self cultivates confidence. Confidence provides strength to endure tough times, and changes a lifetime through better choices and better results. Someone who is confident will make educated decisions and be more willing to take a risk to accept an opportunity. They are more willing to stretch outside of their comfort zone. Their communication skills improve. They are more likely to rise up to their abilities instead of hunkering down in their comfort zone. Be intentional to learn daily through:

~ Reading something worth reading- Choose something you have an interest in and learn more about it. Build your expertise.

~ Listening to someone who has value to share- Who do you admire that you would love to chat with in order to learn more about who they are, where they came from, and how they grew to be who they are today? Who has great knowledge in an area of interest to you? Is their a class you would like to take?

~ Learning from experience by taking new actions- We learn by doing. No one learns to swim without getting into the pool. The more you are willing to do or try, the more you will grow through life experience.

What could you get excited about learning? Who do you admire that you would love to chat with and learn from? Is there anything you've been resisting that you could learn from if you got past the fear and just did it? Is there an opportunity that could make a big difference in your life if you committed to learning or practicing something?

Can you see how being intentional about learning can improve your quality of life? Learning more in a certain area and developing skills can lead to developing an expertise, more confidence, more opportunities, better decisions, and thereby improve your career, business, finances, communication skills, health, results, and more. Become an infinite learner throughout your life, and experience life shift into something spectacular!

Set Goals- Be Unstoppable

I love the quote by Ayn Rand, "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me." It oozes passion, desire, determination. So how can we hold that drive? The key is to hold your destination close to you.... within you... around you... in sight... always.

Charles DeLint makes it clear. We have to remember his words, "the road leading to a goal does not separate you from the destination; it is essentially a part of it." It is so easy to put that giant space between where we are and where we want to be, but that's not the way it is. Not when you set up your goals based on who you are, who you aim to be personally, spiritually, or professionally, and what you stand for. Live your goal every day feeling the end result you aim to reach. Take steps towards your goal in a way that develops you and allows you to live your passion and purpose.

Someone once said, "Write it down. Written goals have a way of transforming wishes into wants; cant's into cans; dreams into plans; and plans into reality. Don't just think it - ink it!" Write your goals down and keep them in front of you daily. Don't lose sight of where you are headed. It's unlikely you would take off for the other side of the country without holding that vision and excitement of getting there and having a plan of direction in place.

So what goal is so important to who you are, who you want to become, what you want personally, spiritually, or professionally, and what you stand for that it is worth writing down, creating a plan, and seizing wholeheartedly? Go ahead...get started... 2010 is just around the bend!

And if you want to add the accountability factor. Put your goal out to the world right here. It's been especially busy this year and the thought pattern is in place that things are about to break loose, get crazy, become overwhelming!! Finally, I had to stop and say "hello.... you are a coach.... you know how to handle this.!!"

Anticipation of countless 'to do's' ahead can be overwhelming. The key is to get started. Create a plan of small doable tasks. Begin! Feel better about yourself by doing, accomplishing, renewing, and acknowledging your progress. So I scheduled in time this week to make my year-end plan! A year-end plan includes what you want to complete by year-end on holiday, personal, professional and even financial tasks/ goals. Now I know what I have to do. Whew! While the tasks are many it feels good to know exactly what needs to be done.

I began taking action last night and got enough done to feel I'm off to a strong start. Getting started on Christmas cards makes me feel ahead of the game. Knowing where I want to be at the end of the year is a vision that motivates me into more action. While I am busy now I know that the month of December is filled with additional events that will steal more time. So I'm getting things done now in order that I can really enjoy the holiday season without stress.

Make sure in your year-end plan you include a 'Need List' of things you need to pick up... scotch tape, gifts, a new planner for 2010, etc. Keep it with you. When you are out and about you can be efficient like Santa, check your list and check it twice. See if there is anything you can pick up. Don't get scared now!! ~smile~ I'm not gonna get all scientific on you. It will be worth it! I promise. Here goes...

"Whenever you give in to your impulses and lose your focus, you actually weaken the PFC's control over your life and make the behaviors more likely to occur again. When you resist negative behaviors you strengthen the PFC and your own self-control. Resisting the temptation to waste time or engage in activities that are worthless or harmful makes you stronger. Repetitively doing positive activities makes them more likely to occur. Disciplined behavior increases discipline." This is an excerpt from the book Magnificent Mind at Any Age by Daniel G. Amen, MD.

So basically you have to use self discipline to gain self discipline. Sounds hard but is easier than you may think. First get really clear on the actions that are most important. Keep them in front of you. When you find yourself going to check your e-mail for the third time in an hour, or the temptation to continue a conversation that is just distracting you, or doing secondary tasks that distract you from the important actions... Stop! Focus on what you really want. Do you want to continue to feel bad about your results or do you want to make a change and feel good? Choose to resist!

Resist the temptation to procrastinate, waste time, etc. Know that each time you resist is like strengthening a muscle. You are strengthening your brain and creating knew patterns so that it will not be as hard in the future. Have you watched The Biggest Loser? As the show progresses you see contestants strengthening their self discipline and strengthening their brain. It does get easier for them to resist and focus on what they are doing for themself and their family as they create new thought patterns (habits).

Think of it this way. Do you want short term satisfaction that lasts a few moments? Or do you want higher self esteem, more fulfillment, more accomplishments, and the list of benefits goes on....? Take action to strengthen your self discipline and create a long track record of daily successes.

Thoughtful question(s) to shift into action:
What sabotaging behavior will you resist today in order to gain focus, strengthen your brain, and set the stage for greater self control and a history of positive actions that leads to greater success and happiness?

Don't stop here. Take action! Then come back and let everyone know what worked for you.

As we support each other to be unlimited~
Coach Beth
www.StartingNowCoaching.com
When you are ready to be unlimited!

End Chaos.. Jot down what you want to knock out this week.
Prioritize! Decide what actions will make the greatest positive difference.
Schedule! Do the important things first.
Begin! Take rejuvenation breaks.
Finish! Feel accomplished!!

Sometimes we get into such a whirlwind that we don't take the time to get the clutter out of our heads and into a system that will support our success. Some prefer paper planners, others enjoy technology such as a blackberry or their computer. In any event, a crammmed brain works like a packed computer. The more you are dealing with, the slower it gets. So, stop! Put your to do's into a system.

Now decide what is most important. What are the actions that will make the biggest difference. If you are really needing money, take actions that will help you increase income or lower expenses instead of spending time on a secondary goal. Is there anything you can delegate or eliminate? Prioritize what is most important.

Schedule those important tasks first. So that you are active in what you have decided will make a difference. We often put the important stuff off because of fear or it's something we don't want to do. Putting things off become a toleration that drains your energy and wastes more time. Keep the end result in mind. Know how great you will feel when it's behind you.

Begin! Get busy taking action. Take regular breaks every 90 minutes or so to rejuvenate in order to stay at peak performance level. Treat yourself for 10 minutes. Then get focused and get things done. Listen to your body. Improve your diet, exercise, sleep, etc. in order to have the best energy.

Finish! Keep your eye on completion. Feel great about what you've accomplished and reward your efforts. Go have fun!! Enjoy life now while you take action towards the business, career, life you keep thinking about. Enjoy the people around you. Reap the rewards of planning ahead.

As we continue to be unlimited~
Beth
http://www.startingnowcoaching.com/
When you are ready to be unlimited!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://startingnowcoaching.blogspot.com/2009/10/end-chaos-plan-ahead.html' title='End Chaos.. Rush Limbaugh said, "Being stuck is a position few of us like. We want something new but cannot let go of the old - old ideas, beliefs, habits, even thoughts. We are out of contact with our own genius. Sometimes we know we are stuck; sometimes we don't. In both cases we have to DO something."

You see, inaction causes anxiety. Yet when planning action remember this: When you drive down the road and get stuck in mud you don't get out and move along the same path. Otherwise you are soaked in mud again. Albert Einstein explained, "You can not solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it. You must learn to see the world anew." Take a new route! Come from a new perception.

To stay out of the mud and move in a direction that revitalizes you:
~ Define the obstacle- What is at the source of your stuckness?
~ Take action to resolve it- Fill the gap between the source and the end result.
~ Focus on the ideal end result- Keep your eyes on the prize.
Einstein also declared, "If I had 20 days to solve a problem , I would take 19 days to define it." So what is the source of the obstacle? Here are a few examples with tips to make a shift.

If you are stuck because you are:
Unsure of what to do- Gather more information. Seek advice from someone who knows.
Not wanting to do it- Delegate it to someone whose good at it. If you have to do it, do it first thing in the morning. Get it behind you. Focus on completion and the results you want.
Overwhelmed- Choose the small part you CAN do (even if a rediculously tiny step). Begin!
Fearful- Is it legitimate? Is it something you really want to do? Put your courage to work. Know how great you will feel for having the gumption to address your fear while gaining knowledge and experience.
Battling an old thought pattern or habit that is not serving you- Shift it! You have the power to change it to something positive and encouraging that will support you to take action. EX- Shifting self talk, going to bed earlier or eating better so you have the energy, etc.

No matter what the obstacle remember the aim (the ideal end result). The Wright Brothers did not learn how to put a plane in the air by focusing on being stuck on the ground. Ships were not built by focusing on how to make something sink. Define the obstacle and move into action with great focus on what you want to accomplish and how great that feels. Allow that to become the magnet to advance you forward.

Inaction creates anxiety. So when you are stuck move into action whether it is gathering more information, asking for advice, shifting a mind set or habit, moving through fear, or taking small steps you know you CAN do! What will you do today to tap into your genius, be in action, and take a new route in a way that is revitalizing? It's time to DO something! And let us know what works for you by commenting below.

As we continue to be unlimited together~
Beth
http://www.startingnowcoaching.com/

Do Your Best in This Moment = Very Best Place for the Next

"My philosophy is that not only are you responsible for your life, but doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment." Oprah Winfrey

Think about it... if you just focus on doing your best in this moment as each moment arises you set yourself up to live your best life whether communicating with a client, creating a new product or service, hugging your significant other, or off having a great time golfing, scrap booking, or skiing down a mountain.

A reader of Wednesday Morning Inspiration wrote me a note that it reminded her of the Fibonacci Sequence. The Fibonacci Sequence is a sequence of numbers in which each subsequent number is the sum of the two previous numbers. Such as 0- 1- 1- 2- 3- 5- 8- 13 . See how each number is a product of the sum of the two previous numbers? While you are not here for a math lesson, it does make you think...

If each moment you do your best in that given moment, are you building your life
~ step by step sequentially....... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... ? OR
~ by the Fibonacci Sequence... 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13... ?

Hmmm... is that how Oprah became the first female billionaire? I really don't know but it's intriguing. What I do know is that doing your very best in each moment will lead to greater relationships, life/ career experiences, knowledge, confidence, fulfillment, opportunities, etc. And that new businesses as they grow tend to look more like the Fibonacci Sequence in the beginning when laying the foundation.

So, what will you do to make the most of every moment so that you are in the very best place for the next? We can all become the best we can be together!

And thanks to Laura Kerley of http://www.pencilsproofreading.com/ for reminding me about the Fibonacci Sequence. I wonder how our day might be different. I wonder if our results would change? I wonder if life would get more exciting? I wonder if we would get more done? I wonder if the world would become a better place? OK OK... maybe I'm getting carried away! But think about it... when a dancer goes full out they put everything they've got into their performance... passion, skills, strengths, training, energy. It makes the performance so much more exciting and entertaining! On the other hand a football player who plays full out on the field is doing the same... putting their strengths, skills, training, energy, and love for the game into every move. It leads to exciting plays and great achievements.

So let's do it! Let's wake up... full out! Let's carry out our work, play, relationships, spiritual time full out and see what happens. See how life will be different. See how results may change. Not sure how to do it?

1) Get your head in the game... love every moment!
2) Put that love and passion into everything you do.
3) Leverage your strengths, skills, training, and knowledge
4) Be enthusiastic! Put energy into your efforts and rejuvenate when needed.

OK, ready? Let's go! Live today full out and come back here to comment if anything changed. Did people respond to you differently? Did you feel differently at the end of the day? Did any new opportunities show up because of it? What changed? As a coach I see the difference daily between those who take action to plan ahead and handle clutter and tolerations, and those who fly by the seat of their pants and procrastinate. Funny thing. Those who don't block time to handle thngs often use the excuse that they value their freedom and don't like to be locked into a schedule. Unfortunatley they end up wasting a lot of time. The funny thing is those who have some structure tend to have more freedom. They get things done, are more successful, and take time for what they love.

So today take 15 minutes to declutter one small area, handle a repair, or plan tomorrow. When you put the triple threat into
action you begin to get organized and energized while enjoying each day.
Below are tips on how to do all three daily in small simple steps. If up for a 21
day challenge pick up the complimentary Get Organized and Energized Triple
Threat Challenge Chart at www.StartingNowCoaching.com to stay on track.
In the meantime, begin!

Create Space to Set Up a Home and Work Environment You Feel Great In

Choose one action daily from the list below to get on track to an awesome
environment. Customize it to work for you. If there is an action that works well,
repeat it. Feel free to increase the number of items or time settings. The smaller
amounts are to help you begin and develop a habit.

Every Day Choose One Action to Take for Creating Space:
~ As fast as you can throw away or donate 10 items now
~ Take 10 minutes to clear a small visible space- ex- shelf, desk top, counter
top, paper or floor pile, etc.
~ Take 10 minutes to clear a small enclosed space- ex- drawer, cabinet, file,
email inbox, etc.
~ Turn on the music. Have the family help pick up quickly for 15-20 minutes.
~ Tackle a larger space once a week- ex- a cabinet, closet, garage, etc. It is
ok to begin with one section.
~ Organize a space so it is efficient, enjoyable, or whatever you want that
area to be.

Be Intentional when Managing Time so Time Does Not Manage You

Choose one action daily from the list below. 24 hours is enough! Make choices
that lead to more high quality moments. Consider repeating one action until it
becomes habit, then incorporate another.

Every Day Choose One Action to Open Up Pockets of Time:
~ Establish priorities and planning tomorrow accordingly
~ Set deadlines on tasks that squander time away- ex- phone calls, e-mail,
interruptions, etc.
~ Focus on completion of one task at a time for higher productivity and to
build a history of completions
~ Establish a system that saves time and possibly money in the future- ex-
to do's out of head and into a system, prospect follow-up system,
standardized letters (with personalization), welcome packages/ client files
pre-prepared, maintenance schedule, run errands weekly, create checklists
for supplies, travel, groceries, holidays, pet care, etc.
~ Block time and take action on the one thing that would make the greatest
positive difference
~ Handle a toleration- ex-a repair, hiring a cleaning professional or assistant, etc.
~ Set a boundary- Know when to say 'yes' and when to say 'no'- ex- Saying
'no' to lunch with people who drain you; Saying 'yes' to meeting with an
uplifting, interesting associate.

Rejuvenation and Rewards are Critical for Peak Performance in Handling Time and Actions

Rejuvenate throughout the day before your mind and body lose their
commitment. 10 minute breaks every 90 minutes is great! Consider a walk, nap,
meditation, fresh air, a healthy snack or drink, a full night sleep, a day off, etc.
Rejuvenate before falling into a state of unproductive exhaustion when your
mind is done as your body struggles through the motions. Instead, rejuvenate!
Save precious time.

Reward yourself for two reasons. First, you focus on completion instead of the
task. And second, to enjoy every day. Produce a positive experience as you
gain control of your environment and time while building a record of completions.
As you progress enjoy more high quality moments doing what you love with who
you care about in a space you feel great in!

Be open to adjust any action above or add your own. This is about you! What
works for you? Each day take action in each triple threat area-- to create
space, manage time, and rejuvenate-- in order to be organized and energized
while making the most of today. To take on the 21 day challenge pick up the
complimentary Get Organized and Energized Triple Threat Challenge Chart at
www.StartingNowCoaching.com . Yet most procrastinators take action, just not in the area they procrastinate in. To help change your life, get new results, and gain the most value from your day implement the five practical tips below, and end the day with no regrets.

1- Get Your Head in the Game- The mind, an astonishing asset, can be the greatest obstacle. Become acutely aware of your perceptions, thought patterns, and self-talk, and whether they are supporting or stopping you. Here is what you might find and how to shift:

• Fear- Stay present. Get the focus off you and onto who you are helping or what you want. Prepare. Believe in yourself. Take action to gain confidence and experience. Let go of expectations. Forge through fear just to do it! Feel good about that! Choose to not let fear hold you back any longer.

• Overwhelm- What part can you delegate? Break it down. Get details out of your head and into a system. Begin with one small step you are sure you can do. Commit only 15 minutes. Start with one small area. Begin! Set it up to succeed one small step at a time.

• Unsure of what to do- Call someone experienced. Research on and off line. Don't hold back. People enjoy helping others. Get the help you need.

• You don't like doing it or it is someone else's goal- Delegate, commit 15 minutes to begin, or do it first in the morning. Get it behind you! Focus on how great you will feel when it is done.

Set yourself up to succeed. That entails getting your head in the game to move you into action. Put an end to beating yourself up. Be encouraging. Allow your brain to be your own best success coach!

2- Know Your Primary Actions- What are the three most important actions you can take today to create a high quality life, business, career, etc? What completion will make you say 'Woo Hoo" at the end of the day? Get clear on what will make a difference. It is about taking action towards what you want. As you do you gain knowledge, expertise, connections, and find passion. Keep primary actions fore front knowing at the end of the day you want to feel good! Aim for no regrets!

3- Focus on Completing One Task at a Time in a Set Time Limit- Avoid multi-tasking. Efficiency rises with 100% focus on the goal. Imagine a gymnast, surgeon, pilot, or crossing guard multitasking. Maintain focus on what you want to accomplish in a set time. EX: Allow 15 minutes to check your e-mail so you don't waste an hour. It takes practice learning how long tasks/ projects take but you will see improvement immediately when you aim.

4- Be in Action- Action leads to knowledge, experience, and success. Practice pays off. Learning to swim takes getting in the water. Learning to speak to a group takes standing up in front of them. Many end up feeling worse when they avoid making a new contact. Discomfort is a sign that you are ready for a new adventure. It's a good thing! Get excited! Make the call. Do it! The more you do the more you gain expertise, meet intriguing people, have more exciting experiences, and see doors open for you.

5- Extreme Self Care- Pay attention to your body. Nourish it. Give yourself permission to take breaks to rejuvenate. Rest when needed and get a good night's sleep. Notice the difference between self care and procrastination. You will accomplish more by rejuvenating than trying to push through when exhausted.

Take Action Now to Feel Great Tonight:
~ Knock out a Toleration- Set a timer for 15 minutes and clean out one area that has been irritating you.
~ Decide the 3 most important actions you can take today, then follow through.
~ What focus will motivate you into action when procrastination sets in? Say it and feel it.
EX: 'I want to say Woo Hoo at the end of the day.' 'I want new results.' 'I want a high quality life."
~ Complete something right now that you have been putting off. You will feel great to get it behind you!
~ Get a support structure in place to connect with: a friend, small group, a coach, a class, etc.

Continue in action! We all are capable of so much more. You are an amazing person who is fully capable of ending each day saying "Woo Hoo! I did it! I knew I could!" We are an hour from Galveston, in Sugar Land, southwest of Houston. A warm thank you to those who called, sent notes by mail/e-mails of concern. I was shocked when the first call the morning after the storm was not from family but a client. Overwhelmed by your love!

This year my birthday on 9-11 was spent in hurricane preparation. Lots to do! We were well prepared. Friday evening winds picked up. It took a long time before the rains came. Most Houstonians were ready... wanting it to 'come on' and 'get out'! The anticipation was annoying.

Things got worse as the winds got stronger and the night got darker. We were teased as the tv/lights went on and off. We knew at some point power would end. Just before midnight it happened. Due to possible tornadoes we moved into my prepared walk-in closet (thankfully decluttered). Petie, our parakeet, sat above in his cage on a shelf. Gemma, our 4 month old Golden Retriever puppy, in her kennel outside the door. My 11 year old daughter and 14 year old son had their sleeping bags spread out as they made a party out of it. And finally, Pumpkin, our beautiful white cat with big light blue eyes sleeked in and out all night keeping me company as the rest drifted to sleep.

This was one long night by light of a small lantern, hearing the winds howl, and the rain pour down. My comfort was Frank Billingsley, our caring meteorologist (the best of the best), taking calls from Houstonians so he could tell them what is going on in their area since no one had power to see the radar screen on tv. Our wonderful Houston Mayor, Bill White, provided regular updates. All night I listened to stories we could all relate to of individual people in the 4th largest city in the country. We were like one small community. I was hearing about our fun get-aways like Kemah and Galveston being wiped out, fires raging, areas where our friends live destroyed. Comfort came from our great leaders calming the fears of listeners and reassuring the community of 5 million people now in the dark that we would make it through. The worst part of the night came when I lost that radio station.

Then the hours slowed down to minute by minute. The strong winds pounded making me wonder how long things such as the roof, windows, trees, fence, could endure. I thought if only we had sunlight things would be better. The best strategy was to stay in a place of faith and trust. I was confident we would be fine. I was confident the sun would come up. And it did.

Shockingly, we were in the 4% to have power around 8:30am. We lost shingles off the roof, and a very small section of our fence came down. In our neighborhood we were shocked at the fingerprint of Hurricane Ike. Huge trees yanked out of the ground by the roots with the grass around it still attached.... all over the place. All of the Houston area (2.25 million households) without power, streetlights down, and massive destruction. Most kids were out of school for 6 days and just started back this week. Some don't have schools to go to anymore.

As I said earlier, we were prepared so when the long lines for hours at the gas station and empty shelves at the grocery store came we were enjoying the beautiful weather after the storm and were able to get out and volunteer as a family. So able to help others because we were prepared.

Great stories, tragic stories, funny stories emerged. Here are a few of the funnies (or not so funny) :

Yesterday they did a bit on the radio 104.1 ' Stupid things you did preparing for the Storm'; these are great examples of why you should 'think things through':
~ One guy waited too long to pick up a generator locally so he drove to San Antonio (a 2 1/2 hour drive one way) to get 3 generators in case his power went out. When he got back to Houston the gas stations were out of gas so he had 3 generators and no gas to run them.
~ Another guy decided to fill his bathtubs with water for flushing toilets, his dogs, etc. in case the water was compromised during the storm. He got some phone calls and an hour later his house was flooded before the storm even arrived (forgot to turn off the running water).
~ A neighborhood was delighted to have their electricity on two hours after the storm. Then a neighbor decided to cut down a tree. It fell on the wires and knocked the neighborhood out of elecricity... 10 days later they still have no electricity. I think he is lucky if he is only banned from the neighborhood barBQs!

So it's important to plan but also to stay present and think things through. Think as if you are already in the situation so you know what you would want/ need. Then once prepared, trust you can handle anything.... and that you have the support.

I am very proud of Houstonians. Not only did they open their doors to Katrina victims during their tragedy... but they have proven to be a city of people in action helping others even as victims themselves. Thanks to the great leadership in encouraging neighbors to help neighbors!

Thanks to all of you for caring!
~ Beth

Interview with Shirley Cheng- Forging Forward No Matter What

Recently I connected with the amazing, award winning author and motivational speaker, 25 year old Shirley Cheng. She epitomizes one who is being unlimited through tremendous struggles. Be uplifted as you gain wisdom from her unique experiences and passion for life. Then apply to your own life as you continue to be unlimited. Included is a brief and amazing background on Shirley and the compelling full interview. At the end, please comment on how you will put this information into action to be unlimited in your own life.

Shirley was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis as a baby. She spent years in constant pain, wheel chair bound, and in-and-out of hospitals. She grew up in a single-parent Chinese family with no formal education. At 11 she attended an elementary special education class. Shirley knew little English and had little knowledge, but mastered her grade level in all areas within 180 days. This moved her to a regular 6th grade class. Her craving for books led her to read about 600 pages a day (about 3 books). She excelled and was recognized for achievements often as a student, writer, and in artwork. In 10th grade her eyesight deteriorated. She went blind and could only listen in class. Yet she found the means to maintain excellent grades. Due to severe arthritis she was unable to use Braille but maintained a 3.9 GPA while writing and balancing long chemistry formulas and equations without vision or Braille. At age 20 she authored 3 books in a year typing 60 words/ minute with 2 index fingers. She has authored 7 books, and contributed to 10. Shirley aspires to attend Harvard. I have no doubt she will get there. I had the chance to ask Shirley a few questions:

THE INTERVIEW

Beth: What went through your mind as you encountered each hurdle?

Shirley: Whenever I run into a challenge or obstacle, I always think to myself that this is not the end of my life. I still have a long road ahead of me that I need to travel. It is completely up to me to make a difference in my life, and I want to make the best of what I have, make the most of my situation, so I have chosen to move forward with a smile. I am so honored and delighted to be living, that God has chosen me to have a life, so I want to show Him how much I am grateful to be alive. Why have a little negativity stop me? Yes, you may think agonizing physical pain and blindness is not little, but compared to the entire wondrous universe--all the beautiful things it contains--it is tiny.

Beth: What drove you to excel in school?

Shirley: I absolutely love to learn since I am so madly in love with life--I want to learn as much as I possibly can about something I love--so that passion is the fuel that allows me to achieve what I have achieved in and out of school. How could I not want to know more about the place I call home (Earth)?

Beth: As you lost your eye site you learned through only listening which takes a tremendous ability to focus. What helped you be able to focus so fully?

Shirley: I believe God gave me the ability to focus well. Ever since I was a baby, I have been a very alert individual who cherishes the "small" things in life--nothing in life is ever too small. God also gave me artistic talents, so I am able to picture things well in my head, so that was how I was able to do math and chemistry in my head without Braille and how I was able to solely depend on listening to my teachers as they taught. But I must admit, it was hard in math and chemistry, because when you have never seen a specific formula and you only hear the teacher talk about it, it does get confusing! But I managed! But unfortunately, I never finished math that year when I lost my eyesight. The tutor the school sent me (I stopped going to school then) did not know how to describe the equations/formulas to me--I don't blame her!

Beth: Did you ever ask 'why me'?

Shirley: Of course, but never in a negative way. I believe that every person has a purpose in life, and everything happens for a reason. God works under mysterious plans, and I am often curious about His plans for me.

Beth: What explains your strong drive to achieve followed with action?

Shirley: My strong drive to achieve has to do with my passion for life, for doing my best to live my best. I believe that to love and accept life is to love and accept God; I love life because I love God, and I am so grateful to Him for my life. Why ruin His gift of life by not achieving and doing my best? When you buy an expensive set of furniture (or anything you love), would you not take good care of it? Would you not love your children with all your heart, soul, and might?

Beth: Shirley, do you have any wisdom for my readers?

Shirley:
~Overcoming negativity is not necessarily about making a physical difference. Many times, we cannot physically change the situation we are in. I lost my eyesight, and I can't make myself see again (sure, I can have an eye surgery, but I, alone, cannot make myself see). Conquering negativity is about making a psychological difference for your spirit. By being happy when I am blind, I am successfully conquering negativity.
~Let us face it, everyone has limitations. But the thing is that we can live in a way that do not let our limitations have the most effects on our lives. We need to live in a way that is most beneficial, with the least hindrance, and that is by limiting your limitations. For example, if you are good in math but not good as a cook, focus on your talent in math, instead of focusing on your inability to cook well. So focus on your strong points, not on your weak points. Concentrate on what you are able to do, not what you are unable to do. If you lose your left hand, you will not try to use your left hand to do everything. You will instead use your right hand and train it how to do the things your left hand could do. I am blind; that is a fact. That is a limitation I have, and I will not deny it. But what I do is to limit my limitation by focusing my attention on what things I am still able to do and enjoy doing without my eyesight. When you are good at something, then do it and do your very best with it.
~ Be your own true best friend and you will become a true best friend of the world.
~ If you do not let obstacles disable you, they will not disable you. Only you have the power to disable yourself or enable yourself. I have chosen to be ultra-abled. Yes, I'm not disabled--I'm ultra-abled!
~ Find the positive side to a negative situation. I know it can be quite difficult to always be able to find the good side of something bad; you will have to look at your situation from every angle. While at times, the good thing does not come out of the bad until some time has passed. After I lost my eyesight, I became an author and motivational speaker; that was the good that came from the bad. This way, I am able to touch others in ways I could not have if I had not lost my eyesight; at least, it would not have been so soon or exactly in this way. Another example is that I have periods of severe insomnia, and it is during my insomnia that many of my great writing ideas come to me, so that is the positive side of insomnia. In life, there are always something good and something bad happening at the same time, and there is always a positive side to the negative, and even a negative side to the positive. And there are times where the bad actually becomes the good and vice versa. So in actuality, it can be too hard at times for us to judge what is truly good or bad. What we can do is always try to look on the bright side and do our best to live our best, and put all faith in God--that is the secret that gets me going; everything else is just strategy!

Beth: Any final words, Shirley?

Shirley: Remember, God has given you the most precious gift--your life--so live it and love it with all your humanly might! Although I'm blind, I can see far and wide; even though I'm disabled, I can climb high mountains. Let the ropes of hope haul you high!

And thank you, Beth, for giving me this opportunity to share a bit of inspiration with your newsletter subscribers. After all, I've made it one of my life's missions to touch as many people as I possibly can to bring humor, hope, and healing; and I am grateful to you for helping me achieve this goal!

Remember to comment on how you will put this information into action today... as we continue to be unlimited in work and play!

Mission- Getting to the Core of What You're About?

Thanks Gang for an absolutely fabulous Moving Beyond Limits Call on Wednesday. I have created 3 posts on Vision, Mission, and Goals as we've discussed. Please add your comments and share experiences and what has worked for you. Let's first discuss how to create a Mission that get's to the core of who you are and drives you forward.

There are 2 steps to determining your mission:

1) Really get to know who you are-
What are your passions, strengths, talents, skills, values?
What gets you juiced?
What are your hot buttons?
What do you stand for?
What makes you jump out of bed in the morning?

When you design your life based on leveraging your natural abilities you get into flow.

2) Put your purpose into a single sentence-
~ the sentence expresses what you do and often who you serve
~ it is in simple language easily understood by a 12 year old
~ it fully expresses you and gets you excited (not watered down)

A few examples:
Google's- "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."
Oprah's Angle Network- "dedicated to inspiring people to make a difference in the lives of others."
Amazon's- "to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online."
The Red Cross'- "will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies."

Mine- "100% committed to coaching big thinkers to be unlimited, stand out in a crowd, and experience the vastness of their capabilities." Every section of this sentence represents something important to me.

Here are a few resources:
Books-Now, Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham & Donald O. I have created 3 posts on Vision, Mission, and Goals as per our discussion. Please share your comments on what you are doing and what works for you.

Holding your vision is equal to taking responsibility to motivate yourself. It's the 'why'. Why are you doing what you're doing? The more vivid your vision the more likely you will take action to get there. Consider when you get a craving for a certain food. You begin to see it, smell it, taste it, and experience the satisfaction of having it. Before you know it you are running to the grocery store or your favorite restaurant to pound it down.

When creating a vision: You are creating your ultimate end result.

Make it intense, vivid, colorful, and very clear.

Make it big enough to get you excited to run towards it. It does not have to be actualized. It allows you not to limit yourself. Such as Martin Luther King- "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." It drove him forward. It inspired others and drove them forward. Has it been actualized? Not yet. Worthwhile? Absolutely!

Create a vision board with pictures, phrases, words, $ amounts, etc. to keep your vision in front of you daily.

Close your eyes a few times daily and experience your end result as if it has already occurred. Feel the emotions.

Allow it to propel you into action!

Watch it come to life!

For more info on Vision see previous posts. What are you doing to keep your vision in front of you in order to stay motivated and attract the life you keep thinking about.

As we continue to be unlimited~
Beth
www.StartingNowCoaching.com

Goals- Step by Step to Your Vision

Thanks Gang for a fabulous call on Wednesday. I have created 3 posts on Vision, Mission, and Goals as we discussed. Please share your comments on what works for you.

Goals are the milestones to your vision. From past experience in helping hundred of people set goals I have found the biggest pitfall is that most people do not set clear, measurable goals. It really comes down to these steps:

1) A Clear Goal- You know exactly what you want... to write a book, to obtain a management position, to buy a new car, to pay off all credit cards. Something like 'To live a healthy lifestyle' would have to be clearly defined so you know exactly what your goal is.
2) Measurable- This is your score card. You can measure your progress. To pay off credit cards can be broken down into creating a budget and paying off so much per month.
3) Attainable- Unlike your vision your goals are attainable. Depending on your personality you can set them up to be easily attainable or to stretch yourself a bit if you like a challenge. For most people it is better to set goals you know you can achieve and build a track record of successes to build up confidence.
4) Have a Deadline- Set the date to achieve your goal and keep it in front of you.
5) Set up Action Steps- Set up the first 3 action steps you will take under each goal with deadlines to get you started. Action steps are the steps we take to reach goals. Begin!

What works for you to obtain your goals? Here it is again:

" ... if I set out to write a book , I keep a solid picture of the completed book in my mind, and I refuse to let that intention disappear. There's nothing that can keep me from that intention being fulfilled. Some say that I have great discipline, but I know otherwise. My unbending intent won't allow for anything but its completion to be expressed. I'm pushed, prodded, and propelled, and finally almost mystically attracted to my writing space. All waking and sleeping thoughts are focused on this picture, and I never lack for being in a state of awe at how it all comes together."

A few tips we can pull from this are:
Vision- Have a solid picture of the end result engrained in your mind
Clarity- The picture is focused on one project
Commitment- Absolutely refuse to let go of that vision... no matter what!
Determination- Nothing will stand in the way of manifesting the end result
Attraction- The solid vision serves as a magnet to motivate you into action
Confident Awareness- All waking & sleeping thoughts are around the clear vision... the ideal end result... your determined intent...and not the obstacles or challenges facing you.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
~ What one goal are you fully committed to completing?
~ What picture can you hold of that completed project that gets you so excited you can't wait to get to work on it? Be clear and detailed
~ What support structure will help you to create a habit of holding this vision and never letting go... no matter what!

Have a great week and hear you on Wednesday! It's from my inability to be able to post the synergy, enthusiasm, and all that you bring to the call. I leave with such high energy!! It also comes from knowing there's a bunch of you that missed it who didn't get to take that something with you that could propel you forward, and that we missed the value you would have brought to the call. So here are notes but know that for us to Move Beyond Limits together we have to continue to connect with others who are doing the same. Hear you next week!

"Believe deep down in your heart that you are destined to do great things." Joe Paterno

If you come from this place every day of the year how will this year be different? Many of us have a thin layer of positive thinking on top of a whole bunch of negative thinking. If you stop thinking so much, and come from a deeper place of knowing you are destined to do great things from deep in your heart... how will your year turn out different?

What does it take to be truly 100% committed every day?

Motivation for what you are doing- Leveraging your strengths, passions, values, etc. daily gets you in the gap. How can you set up your days so that you are living purposefully and not losing site.

Clear Vision- Dr Wayne Dyer gives us an example of how intense a clear vision can be. Excerpt from The Power of Intention: " ... if I set out to write a book , I keep a solid picture of the completed book in my mind, and I refuse to let that intention disappear.

Have a Plan- Know what consitent daily actions you will take and build rewarding daily habits. It's hard to be committed if you don't know what to do.

Be Persistent- Don't quit, don't bounce around, don't lose site, don't waver. Take persistent daily actions. Example- If you try a new marketing plan give it time to work before trying something else. When obstacles get in your way, fall down and get back up.

Take risks- Stretch out of your comfort zone daily, set up a daily habit to take a risk daily just to strengthen that courage muscle and get comfortable with discomfort... a sign you are growing

Awareness- Be aware when self-limiting beliefs show up and of perceived obstacles (other people, circumstances, etc.). Strive to calibrate at higher energy levels by maintaining positive attiudes... in a place of abundance, love, peace, unity, gratitude, appreciation.

Manage Your Time with First Things First- What will make the greatest positive impact in your life? Those things that show up when we are on a roll to distract us and hold us back from what we want. If you have done the Goals Report assessment located on my home page at www.StartingNowCoaching.com , there is a part in which you determined your sabotaging behavior. When I looked through the results of the reports visitors have taken over the last year and a half, this is how they have ranked.

Procrastination- the #1 sabotaging behavior by a land slide
Indecisiveness & Tolerating- tied for 2nd
Following Secondary Goals- came in 3rd
Not saying "no"- came in 4th
Others included Lack of Focus, Not Always Telling the Truth, Not Listening to Intuition, Acting as a Lone Ranger, Self Esteem/ Fear, and Controlling Life/People.

Steps to tame your sabotaging behavior(s):
1) Identify it so you can recognize it when it shows up
2) Create a plan to respond differently when it rears its ugly head
3) Carry through... take new actions for new results

Let me know if you have any thoughts on what you want to discuss next week.
December 14th will be our end of the year celebration.

Hear you next Wednesday! Sorry we got cut off when time ran out at the end. Here are
some notes for those who could not attend. Please post your experiences
as to how you are tapping into abundance this week.

"Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into." Wayne Dyer

1- There is more than enough- All you need is available to you. Looking at
your life from another perspective can help you to see abundance. What if
you were to look down at your life from above and could see all of the
resources, people, and opportunities available to you. Hard to discover while
tucked away at your desk. Remove the limitations in your life. The 6
Degrees of Separation Theory states that we are only 6 people away from
finding out anything we need to know.

2- You attract what you Focus on- What are you attracting? If you focus on
having less or what you don't have... that is the experience you create for
yourself. How can I tap into the prosperity and abundance available to me?
Those on the call shared examples of how this is working in their lives. By
documenting the evidence of it working you gain more confidence that you
can manifest what you want. Stay in a place of powerful positive thinking.
Garbage in= Garbage out. Be true to yourself.

Instead of focusing on more money. Try focusing on sharing your strength
and talents in the world. What cause are you committed to? If you feel it in
your gut, there's a good chance there is someone waiting to experience it.

3- Gratitude- Acknowledge what you have and be grateful for the abundance
(even if you have a hard time seeing it... it's there). Notice and acknowledge
the gifts adversity provides.

4- Come from a place of curiosity- Ask deeper -questions-. Be curious to the
abundance available to you. When stuck give your mind space for ideas to
manifest. This often occurs when you have been fully focused on something
then break away to do laundry, drive somewhere, or do a routine task...
suddenly the idea you've been waiting for just shows up.

"Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds
discuss people." Eleanor Roosevelt

5- Giving- You can't exchange what you don't have. But you are abundant.
You may have lots of love to share, art to share, leadership, clutter. In
giving you receive. Give in a way that is true to yourself.

"To have life more abundant, we must think in the limitless terms of
abundance." Rosweld Hitchcock

Have a great week! Don't forget to post how you are tapping into abundance
this week by clicking on Comment. We can all learn from each other. Great topic! It is important to note I came to the call as a student exploring this concept of intuition... and sharing what I've found.

"The more and more each is impelled by that which is intuitive, or the relying upon the soul force within, the greater, the farther, the deeper, the broader, the more constructive maybe the result."Edgar Cayce

Albert Einstein said, "the only real valuable thing is intuition."

An Intriguing Study

The Institute of Heart Math, focused on decoding the intelligence of the heart, conducted a study. They showed 26 participants 30 calm pictures (landscapes, cute animals, etc.) & 15 disturbing & emotionally stimulating pictures (car crash, bloody knife, etc.). Measures were used to investigate where & when in the brain & body intuitive information is processed. Astounding results showed participants had significant changes in heart rate variability 5-7 seconds before an emotionally disturbing picture appeared. It then sent a message to the brain. The study remarkably shows the heart is involved in the perception of future external events as well as processing and decoding intuitive information. It also found females are more attuned to intuitive information. Click here to read more about the study

Understanding Intuition

Intuition- knowing w/out knowing how you know, the human capacity to know w/out the use of rational processes or concrete information, based on an inner knowledge/truth & not on external stimulus, a natural knowing,

Problem- It competes with preconceived notions. We over rely on thinking and logic.

Benefits of intuition- Better decisions, ask better questions, in facing fear, better relationships

How do intuitive messages show up?

Kinesthetically- feelings in stomach, heart, joints, muscles, energy level, senses
Cognitively- hunch, aha!, seeing connections
Experientially- synchronistic, things fall in line, options fall away except 1, right place/ right time

1- Notice where your intuitive messages come from
2- Hone in on that part of yourself that send the message
3- Pose 'clear questions' with clear answers

How can you know when you are experiencing intuition:

Logic- Need to know why, ego, draw from tangible evidence, you think you know, your agenda

Intuition- You are in trust, intuition comes to you, caught off guard by the thought or image. When you open yourself up to the message instead of disregarding it, you open yourself up to receiving and understanding its value.

~ A knowingness
~ Things happen synchronistically (right people, right time, alignment, not coincidence)
~ There's effortlessness/ flow
~ Elation & inspiration
~ It keeps coming up until you pay attention to it and act on it

Ways to know when it is something other than intuition:

~ Intuition does not carry a sense of desperate urgency
~ If it is charged with emotion then it is not intuition
~ If it is full of effort... you keep trying to make it fit into your life
~ If it is out of integrity for you ... doesn't fit with your core values

How can you become more intuitive:

Intuition is like a muscle- it needs to be exercised to develop & will atrophy w/out use.
Self-Care is fundamental (slowing down the mind): when overwhelmed, tired, hungry, in chaos the lines of intuitive communication collapseAsk yourself how you think and feel right now?
Get out of your head and into your heart- then notice the first thing that came to mind
Being truly honest with yourself... what is the truth about this message?
What are you feeling, seeing, hearing, sensing?
Where do you feel this in your body?
What is this message trying to tell you?
Creativity, Yoga, Walk, Deep breathing, Listen to music, Meditation, Relaxing environment, Visualization
Trust your 1st thoughts, Trust your day dreams
Asking the "Right Questions"- sensory based
Speaking out loud about your intuitive sense can expand on it and draw more insight

Exercise 1:
Sit & Close Eyes, Notice your mind, how it flips, Choose to quiet your mind. Allow yourself to be there... observe the quiet... Ask- What do I trust?

Exercise 2:
1) Notice the 3 decisions you make/made- Are they intuitive or coming from logic
2) Journal when intuition or the mind kicks in, notice patterns that emerge, note results and consequences

What I want for you is to use intuition to expand your personal discovery, make better decisions, & move into a place of trust to move beyond limits in your life and business.

Sign up for the Moving Beyond Limits Revolution at http://www.StartingNowCoaching.com and hear you next Wednesday when we discuss "Knowing Who You Are & How to Leverage It".

Lights out... Lights on

Hi Everyone~
Today I lost power for about 45 minute period of time when I should have been conducting a Moving Beyond Limits call. So what did I do? Completely tore my office apart, rearranged, dusted it up, and abracadabra... a great new feeling of openness, flow, space, and energy! I have noticed myself becoming increasingly aggravated with my work space. Since I got a new computer last Christmas I have felt invaded by the space the large monitor takes up. I also have some large reference books that I like to access easily but have recently felt them taking over my space. So in 45 minutes of down time when I would normally be on a call I tore into it and quickly found a new piece of mind. What are you tolerating that you need to delve into? It may not be as bad as you think. Cheers ~ Beth

PS~ If you want to join other big thinkers on a Moving Beyond Limits call... join us next Wednesday. When we come together and interact a synergy is created. Here are a few thoughts we discussed.

Since our mind controls our actions it is wise to explore what's going on with our thoughts. As with habits, do your thoughts encourage you or restrain you?

1- Be open to the idea that you were created for a grand purpose.

2- In talking with many top coaches in the country, the #1 response to the question "what is the #1 thing that holds people back from what they want?" was beliefs. Pay attention to roles you are in, labels, and beliefs that limit and no longer serve you.

3- Once you recognize what is in place you can take action to rewrite the belief. Such as "I can do everything to help others but I can't do it for me." Shift to
"I can do everything to help others so am fully capable to do it for myself." Maybe you have always been the caretaker in your family and it's time for someone else to lend a helping hand.

4- Make your enviroment a place of abundance... there is nothing lacking. You have unlimited people, resources, opportunities, and choices available to you.

5- Explore choices with out of the box thinking... try Mind Mapping.

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives." William James

A new belief we can integrate into our lives that rose out of the call is that we are all deserving of prosperity!

Warm regards~ Beth

PS~ Jess has been working diligently on her website. This is what we did on the call Wednesday. Here are a few notes from the call.

1) Through our lives we develop habits that serve us for a period of time. Often we maintain these habits even after they no longer serve us. So it is critical to explore what daily habits are at work in your life. Which ones work for you and which are holding you back?

2) Choose habits that create the long term results you want. Choose what you want ... not what you think you should do. This helps set you up to succeed. Be specific. Choose 1-3 to work on per month to maintain focus and set yourself up to succeed. Only 1 per month will provide 16 new habits that serve you by the end of 2006.

3) What is your motivation? What will you feel and experience of maintaining this habit? How will you reward yourself? You can even use a negative stimulus. What will be the result if you maintain the habit that no longer serves you?

4) Set up a Support Structure- The Rewarding Daily Habits chart is meant to help you maintain focus on a daily basis. Studies have shown that you are more likely to take action when you have support and accountability. So you may want to connect with a buddy, coach, or use the StartingNow Blog right here to post your breakthroughs, challenges, and thoughts for others to get the support you need.

5) Keep your vision in front of you. Maintain focus for 28 days. You will miss some days... persevere... don't give up. You can go for 2 months if needed.

What I want for you is to develop daily habits that work for you to create a high quality business and life as you move beyond limits.

Hear you Wednesday!
Warm regards,Beth

Live Consciously- August 17th Call

Hi Revolutionaries~

Below are a few notes from our call on Wednesday August 17th. Step 1 to moving beyond limits is to live consciously. So how do you do that?

1) Notice when you hold yourself back through thoughts, self-talk, procrastination, etc. Pay attention to how you think and talk to yourself.

2) Get to the source- Who is the voice behind your critic (a parent, sibling, teacher, boss?). Fear is often at the base.Identify the source then take action to resolve the issue.

3) Identify sabotaging habits, beliefs, & tolerations thatrestrain you. Habits you picked up as a child may not serveyou well now. If you receive StartingNow ezine... this week'sissue will address creating new habits that uplift you. Ifnot, you can visit it out soon at http://www.StartingNowCoaching.com/_wsn/page4.htm

4) Be aware of how your thoughts, choices, & habits serve you long term. Debbie Ford's book "The Right Questions" is agreat resource and includes 10 questions to ask yourself. Here's 2: "Will this choice add to my life or rob me of myenergy?" & "Is this an act of self-love or an act of self-sabotage?"

5) Attend to the "who" vs "what". When making a life decisionmost people ask themselves what they want and then how do Iget that. Begin with the question "Who am I?" What are yourstrengths, values, passions, etc. and what can you do toleverage them to your advantage?

6) Access your intuition- that real gut feeling. Are youmaking life choices by only thinking in your head or are youalso paying attention to that deeper "knowing" within?

7) Engage in "who" you are- When you get to know what yourstrengths, values, passions, and needs are you can get needsmet, leverage strengths, enjoy what is most important to youand engage in who you are. Take the VIA Signature Strengthssurvey at no charge at http://www.authentichappiness.org/ tolearn your strengths. To identify values ask yourself... what would you want in your life if time and *money* were notan issue?

When you live consciously you will gain the ability to respond vs. react in situations. Share your experiences.. successes and challenges here on the blog so we can continue to support each other to move beyond limits.

Hear you next Wednesday!
Warm regards,Beth

The First Moving Beyond Limits Revolution call

Today I left the call with high energy.

What is this all about? We all have limits in our lives... it is our choice to move beyond those limits. The revolution began with this quote by Thomas Edison, "If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves." If you lived your life this way, how would it be different?

There was a story on www.msn.com through the Associated Press on July 8th about a 15 year old girl in Dulwich, southeastLondon who left her home sleepwalking during the night. She climbed to the top of the crane and walked across a narrow metal beam while asleep. She was rescued 2 hours after being discovered by a passer-by fast asleep 130 feet up on the arm of a crane. We would all have imagined that it was impossible, and I doubt she would have had the same success if she tried it while awake.

In talking with experts who support people to move beyond limits I have discovered over 20 ways in which we hold ourselves back. Yet the moment we make the choice to move beyond limits suddenly the abundance of the world opens up to us. Join us on Wednesdays by signing up at www.StartingNowCoaching.com and connect with other big thinkers to experience the vastness of your capabilities.

Cheers~ Beth

Spend 24 Hours in the Zone of Being Beyond Limits

Hi Everyone~

This topic came out of the Starting Now Monthly Telegathering last night. How will your day be different if you live it as though you had no limitations? Put yourself out into the world in a very big way and see what changes. Notice when those self-limiting beliefs show up and re-write them to move beyond those limits. Posting your experiences here will put you in a place of support and accountability which will help you to take big actions to grow beyond limits.
You are uniquely created and capable of so much. Try it!

And I thought... wow... I really want to hear what happens when all of you go through a day living without limits! I thought about how powerful this could be for someone who felt challenged to let go of their limits to hear from those who were able to do so. To hear their results. To get some ideas! To build the motivation to let go of those limits that are like security blankets and want to hold us back so much.

Remember... the Wright brothers didn't figure out how to fly by thinking it wasn't possible. Nassau didn't get us to the moon by thinking it was impossible.

So share your experiences here!
What limits are you holding on to?
What limits are you ready to let go of?
What do you notice when you consciously watch for limits that may be holding you back.
What is different when you consciously rid yourself of limits?
Share your ideas about how we can continue living beyond limits.

Don't be shy! This apparent quick read is called "How Full is Your Bucket? Positive Strategies for Work and Life" co-authored by the inventor of Strengths Finder and co-author of Now, Discover Your Strengths. At the website I found out more. It is a book that uses a simple metaphor about a dipper and a bucket and decades of research to show how even the briefest interactions affect your relationships, productivity, health, and longevity. There are some interesting interactive tools such as A Drop For Your Bucket where you can send a drop to help fill someone's else's bucket, the Positive Impact Test with 15 questions to test your positive impact, and Bucket Filling Reminders to remind you to fill the bucket of others. Here's what a few others are saying about the book:

"This slender volume offers an abundance of insights and inspiration. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to dramatically improve their work life and strengthen their relationships."
-- Deepak ChopraAuthor of the best-selling books The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire

"An insightful ‘can't put it down' . . . literary gem. . . Indeed, a winner!"
-- Willard ScottNBC's Today show

"The Grandfather of Positive Psychology, Don Clifton, and his grandson, Tom Rath, offer illuminating wisdom for fulfilling work and for a meaningful life."
-- Martin E.P. Seligman, Ph.D.Former President of the American Psychological Association and author of the best-selling books Authentic Happiness and Learned Optimism

While I have not yet read this book I am a fan of Don O. Clifton's work and would expect this to be another winner...and no... I am not getting paid to pass this info on to you. The website is definitely worth checking out @ www.bucketbook.com . Let me know what you think.

And let me attempt to fill your bucket today in saying that right within you at this time you have the ability to gently shake the world. You are great right now!

Bye for now~ Beth

Blessings of a Terminal Disease

Hi Readers~
Sorry I have been away. My father passed away early in July. I am back now, and feeling more inspired than ever. Witnessing my father deal with his terminal illness and mom handling all the details has made a huge shift for me that I hope will benefit you. Exercising has never been easier after knowing that dad continued to choose to go to physical therapy daily...even though the last 2 days he was hooked up to oxygen. The only reason he stopped was that his physical therapist went on vacation. Talk about inspiring! Anyway... I will put the details into another post another time...just wanted you to know I am back and have some great info to pass to you in the next post.
~ Beth

Sustained Focused Attention

Sustained Focused Attention was the topic of the "Think Big Revolution" this week which you can learn more about at www.MichaelPort.com. One of the questions that came up was "Are your avoiding the work that will put you in the world in a big way? The majority of us are busy. However...are we busy doing the most important things that will make the biggest positive reaction in our lives? How much time do you spend daily on busy work (the safe place) vs activities that put you out in the world (Ahh...scary!! but most rewarding)? Hmmmm.... let us know what you do or will do to have sustained focused attention (action). The more ideas we hear the more we grow. Here's a few to get us started:

Get crystal clear about what you want to create in the world.
Start an on-line community or blog
Make one success a day

OK Your turn.......

Have fun ~ Beth

Are your beliefs holding you back?

Hi There~
I often wonder how much our belief systems interfere with success. For instance, what if you are holding back on expanding your business because you think you couldn't handle it. What if you are wrong about that? What if you could? How can you shift your thinking? How can you set it up so you believe you can? If you'd like to do some work in this area, take notice this week of the belief systems that are currently ruling your world and write them down. They may have served you in the past but no longer do the trick. Are your beliefs supporting you to move forward or disabling you? What positive belief can you put in place to help you create the life and business you want?

“You are what you think about all day long.” Dr. Robert Schuller
